London to Paris is around 450 km, and it is an easy EV trip once you plan around the one fixed point on the route: the Channel crossing. With good fast chargers on both sides of the water, the drive can be done with a single well-placed stop.

Plan around the crossing

Whether you take the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle from Folkestone or the ferry from Dover, the crossing itself is a pause from charging, not a place to top up. So the trick is to arrive at the crossing with a good state of charge, then plan your real charging stop on the French side.

Top up before you reach the coast if you are running low, and again at the first French service area if needed. Both England and France have fast chargers near the terminals, so you are never far from power.

Aim for 150 kW or more

On the French autoroute, look for fast chargers of 150 kW and up rather than slower chargers in the towns. A single 20 to 30 minute stop is usually enough between the coast and Paris, charging from about 10 to 80 percent while you take a break.

Watch tolls and pricing

The French autoroute is a toll road, and motorway fast charging can be pricey on ad hoc pricing. If you drive this route often, a subscription or roaming card with one of the big operators can quickly pay for itself. Check the price before you start, and do not top up to 100 percent when 80 is plenty to reach Paris.

Pin your stops on the charging map before you go, so you know the power, number of stalls and operator on both sides of the Channel.
